Rigging Time

With the old engine half pulled out we needed help to get the boat off the dock and up to Port Townsend. We had great weather and an uneventful trip to the dock. While we were hoping to have the mast pulled with the boat in the water, the weather had other plans.

High winds prevented crane from pulling mast from boat in water; hauled boat to the yard.

With help from Little Dipper Marine Services we managed to get the boat into the yard with no issues. The following Monday the mast was pulled.

Day Sail outside Port Ludlow

Date: 10/16/2022

Crew: Melissa, CB, Tawn, Higgins

Had an amazing day sail. Got up to 5kts with stay sail and main, didn’t even use Yankee. Boat still smoking a bit at exhaust. I will add more JB weld. Also, at full rpm we are pumping water via overfill line on header tank. I need to pull and inspect the heat exchanger. Smoke was getting strong by end of the day.

Notes & Observations:
Conditions were still blowing. We took off from Poulsbo with a staysail and reefed main. Had an amazing sail from Poulsbo to right outside of Shilshole. We power sailed N though Agate Passage, but otherwise did 4-5kts all the way home. We hit 4 trains at railroad bridge, which made us miss a lift and added an hour to our trip. All in all, possibly best sailing I have done. Ryan and Melissa were much happier with reduced sails!

Notes & Observations:
Fuel level of black marker is starting level. Heater will most likely run all day as temp is only forecast to 57 degrees.Visual inspection at 1,700 RPM showed no leaks from water or exhaust. Everything sounded good.Replaced impellor, cleaned strainer, and tightened up alternator belt. I also tried to tighten the temp sender wire. It is very goofy. May just need to replace. All fluids at good levels. Oil just below max.First overnight of the season! We got stuck at locks for a couple hours as the train bridge needed to be repaired. Very gusty conditions. Boat was fine, crew was a bit iffy. We were overpowered with both head sails and full main.

Started up after 3 tries at 10 seconds each. Visual inspection showed what looked like water leak from exhaust manifold? Looked like starter and stop electronics had water damage. Possible it spilled from galley? There was also some corrosion between manifold and SS lift elbow.

Boat ran very well. We picked up 20 gallons of fuel at Morrison’s for ~$77. Went over to Lake Washington, Drifted and had lunch. Landing was very good. Mel very comfortable handling lines!
